Join us in celebrating the new school year at our Educator Open House at La Brea Tar Pits!

To prepare for this upcoming school year, meet with our School Programs team to learn about our intentional educational opportunities, free of charge for students and educators. Enjoy this morning event at the Tar Pits with complimentary breakfast, learning about the program and event offerings, a chance to win various raffle prizes (including a free bus trip!), and participating in our various activities to make the Ice Age as engaging for you and your students as possible. 

    EDUCATOR OPEN HOUSE SCHEDULE

    8:30 am–9 am: Breakfast and Networking  | West Gallery | Sitting and Standing

    • Check in with museum staff at staff entrance before entering

    • Enjoy complimentary continental breakfast and mingle with other educators

    • Enter the raffle

    9 am–9:45 am: School Programs Presentation | 2D Theater | Sitting and Standing

    • Meet LBTP’s School Programs team 

    • Hear about everything being offered to students and teachers this school year

    • Learn how to book a field trip with us

    9:45 am–10 am: Break

    10 am–11 am: Breakout Session | West Gallery | Sitting and Standing

    • See a School Programs Guided Program Demo (Windows into Nature at 10 am  and Fossil Detectives at 10:30am)

    • Join our Performing Arts staff for a Paleo Puppetry Drop-in Activity 

    • Hear about our Mobile Museums programs for LAUSD schools!

    • Last chance to submit for the raffle!

    11 am–11:10 am: Break

    11:10 am–11:20 am: Raffle | 2D Theater | Sitting and Standing

    •  Your chance to win some fabulous prizes, including a bus scholarship for a trip to the Museum, resources for your classroom and more!

    11:20 am–11:30 am: Break

    11:30 am–11:50 am: Ice Age Encounters |  Encounters Theater  | Sitting and Standing 

    *Advanced tickets required and provided first come first served at check-in 

    • Experience this dynamic, 15-minute show featuring a life-size adult saber-toothed cat puppet, a live performance, and film projections that bring the distant past to life.

    12 pm: Titans of the Ice Age | Event Concludes | 2D Theater

    • The open house is over but the fun doesn't have to be! We will turn on our 2D movie that is a great introduction into the research conducted.  Your Sticker acts as a museum ticket for the rest of the day!

    Important Workshop Information

    • Our events fill up incredibly fast! Please only sign up if you are sure you can make it–and if plans change, email us ASAP to give your spot to someone on the waitlist.
    • While we love welcoming your families to our museums, this specific program is intended for formal and informal educators (18+). In-person events are subject to cancellation due to low registration, inclement weather, or changes in safety measures.
    • Participants MUST register prior to the event. There will not be registration at the door.
