Come join this workshop as you'll hear from two scientists, Laura Tewksbury and Shannen Robson. They will showcase how La Brea Tar Pits and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County work together to learn more about the wildlife present today. Their presentation will highlight findings that they've researched about our nature neighbors, to learn how to better coexist with them. We will also go outside and provide a demonstration on iNaturalist, an app scientists gather data from, so your class can join our community of science. Educators will have the chance to connect over breakfast, participate in discussion around classroom application of the topic, and receive teaching resources.

Shannen Robson

Shannen joined NHMLA in 2020 as the Collections Manager of Mammals after working for 25 years in the Collections and Research Division at the Natural History Museum of Utah (UMNH). As a Collections Manager she prepares specimens, manages loans, and facilitates research with the collection.  Shannen holds a Ph.D. from the University of Utah in Evolutionary Ecology.  Her research has focused on comparative primate life histories, demographic studies, and field surveys of small mammals in the Great Basin to better understand how these communities have responded to changes in climate over time.
