Join us for an educator workshop all about fossil conservation! Explore how we make sure our fossils keep sticking around with Connie Clarke, preparator in La Brea Tar Pits Fossil Lab.
You’ll learn about what causes deterioration, how we mitigate damage (with a little dive into adhesive chemistry), the detective work of figuring out what happened to a fossil that was excavated a hundred years ago, and how we learn and improve from other conservation fields. After the presentation, you’ll further your learning by going behind the scenes in the Fossil Lab and participating in a pottery repair activity that can be replicated back in your classroom.
