Join us for La Brea Tar Pits first-ever Queer Family Day! On Friday the 13th from 3 pm to 8 pm we will host a frightfully fun day of festivities. During this fun and welcoming event for the whole family, you can…
- Attend drag story time hosted by Pickle—the current Drag Laureate for the City of West Hollywood!
- Strut your Halloween best in a costume contest, alongside a catwalking saber-toothed cat!
- Test your knowledge of queer history in a round of pub-style trivia.
- Meet real scientists.
- Participate in hands-on activities and more!
The party is included in the price of museum admission and free for both Members and Community Partners. See below for additional details about the program schedule.
Program Schedule
Activity Stations | 3–8 pm
Express yourself with fun and easy activities for all ages (while supplies last).
Community Resource Fair | 3–8 pm
Representatives from non-profit organizations such as Extraordinary Families, Gender Justice L.A., Translounge, and more will be on-site to share more about the important resources that they offer the LGBTQ community.
Drag Queen Story Time | 4 pm and 5 pm
Join West Hollywood Drag Laureate Pickle, from Drag Queen Story Hour, as they capture the imagination and tell stories of self-love and appreciation of others. For children of all ages!
Saber-toothed Cat Walk Costume Parade | 6–6:30 pm
Come play dress up with us as participants show off their costumes!
Tar Bar | 5–8 pm
Enjoy a beer, wine, or cocktail in the Tar Bar (must be 21+ to enter).
Pub-style Queer History Trivia | 7–8 pm
Test your knowledge of Queer history and pop culture with a fun pub-style trivia activity. There will be prizes!
COstume Guidelines
We encourage costume-wearing! Please follow these basic guidelines for a safe, inclusive, and family-friendly experience for everyone:
- No functional props or weapons allowed
- No masks that cover the entire head and face
- Costumes of realistic depictions of American law enforcement, current American military uniforms, first responders, emergency medical personnel, or any official government agent are prohibited
- Costumes must not obstruct or impede the flow of traffic or entryways
