Educator Open House

Join us in celebrating the new school year at our Educator Open House at the La Brea Tar Pits! You'll learn about our 2025–2026 school year offerings and how to book field trips, check out our exhibits, enter a raffle to win prizes, and enjoy guided tours and experiences.

EVENT SCHEDULE

8:30 am: Check-in and Breakfast  | Museum Gallery | Sitting and Standing

• Check in with museum staff before entering
• Enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast and mingle with other educators
• Enter the raffle

9–9:30 am: Museum Preview | Museum Gallery | Standing and Walking

• Explore our exhibits before the museum opens to the public!

9:30–10:15 am: School Programs Presentation | 2D Theater | Sitting 

• Meet the La Brea Tar Pits' School Programs team
• Hear about museum offerings for the school year and what's new at the Tar Pits
• Learn how to book a field trip with us and how to request a Mobile Museum residency

10:30–11:30 am: Breakout Sessions | 2D Theater to Museum Galleries & Hancock Park | Sitting, Standing, and Walking

• Choose your own adventure! Join a demo of one of our brand new guided programs (for grades PK-1, 6-8, 9-12) or participate in Microfossil Sorting
• Please be prepared to spend time outdoors, including possibly sitting on the grass

11:30–11:40 am: Break | 2D Theater, Museum Galleries | Sitting and Standing

• Last chance to put your name in the raffle! 

11:40 am–12 pm: Raffle | 2D Theater | Sitting and Standing

• Your chance to win some fabulous prizes, including a bus scholarship for a trip to the Museum, resources for your classroom, and more!

12 pm: Event Concludes
