Summer Nights at the Tar Pits - August 4, 2023

Celebrate a saber-toothed summer with Summer Nights at the Tar Pits.  Grab a drink from the Tar Bar while you relax, get something to eat from our selection of local food trucks, enjoy great music courtesy of DJs from Beat Junkie Institute of Sound and Ladies of Sound and bring a blanket to picnic at the park. Explore the museum as we celebrate the mighty predators of the Ice Age, Saber-Tooth Cats, and talk with scientists about discoveries made right here! Take in the glorious Los Angeles summer and mingle with friends, this purr-fect evening is yours to enjoy.

Robert C. Klapper, M.D. is Co-Director of Joint Replacement Program at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Dr. Klapper is a graduate of Columbia College in New York where he majored in Art History. He received his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. His residency training was at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York followed by a Fellowship in arthritis and implant surgery at Kerlan Jobe Clinic in Los Angeles.

Dr. Mairin Balisi is the Augustyn Family Curator at the Raymond M. Alf Museum of Paleontology in Claremont, California, USA. She is also a Research Associate at La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles, where she was a National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Research Fellow from 2018-2022. She earned her Ph.D. in ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of California, Los Angeles, while also a graduate student in residence at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.

5 PM - 5:30 PM: Baby B

Baby B is truly a force to be reckoned with! Also a student of BJIOS, Baby B's love for the art form of DJing is undeniable; having gone viral multiple times on social media for her unbelievable skills at only 17 years old. 

5:30 PM - 6 PM: DJ WolfPup 

DJ Wolfpup has been a day-1 student at BJIOS, successfully taking on every challenge that has come her way. Speaking of challenges––Wolfpup has won BeatJunkies.TV online DJ challenges and is also gearing up for DMC DJ battles. Watch out for this one! 

6 PM - 7 PM: DJ Ramskillit 

RAMSKILLIT is a DJ who loves to share his deep love for music while tastefully showcasing his technical abilities to captivate audiences. With a positive mental attitude that radiates through his performances, RAMSKILLIT creates an atmosphere filled with boundless energy and infectious vibes.

7 PM - 8 PM: Dr Samson

Dr Samson is a rising star in the DJ world and a proud member of the DJ collective Ladies of Sound. A graduate of the prestigious Beat Junkie Institute of Sound in 2019, she is known for her technical skills and mastery of turntablism. Her resume includes DJing for clients like Forever 21 and Sanrio, as well as holding a residency at Escala called NightSchool. Dr Samson is a versatile DJ who can spin any genre, but her passion lies in R&B and hip-hop. Her lively and fun personality shines through in her performances, making her a force to be reckoned with in the industry. As a Filipina DJ, she is breaking barriers and paving the way for other women in the music world.
