La Brea Tar Pits Museum and Fossil Lab: See our scientists putting the past back together. Watch science in action in the Fossil Lab as Museum scientists are studying what these fossils are telling us about Ice Age L.A. and the environmental changes that are still having an impact on us today. On display are mammoths, saber-toothed cats, dire wolves, giant sloths, and more, found right here at the La Brea Tar Pits.
Ice Age Encounters: This dynamic, live, 15-minute multi-media performance brings the distant past to life and uncovers the mysteries of the extinct creatures who roamed Los Angeles over 10,000 years ago. Available Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Learn More

Museum Free Days and Hours:
Free First Tuesdays
Receive free Museum admission the first Tuesdays of every month (except July and August) and free Museum admission every Tuesday in September. We recommend reserving tickets in advance to guarantee Museum entry and to skip the line, as we experience high attendance on these days. Get Tickets
We offer Free Museum Admission daily to:
- CA EBT cardholders with I.D.**
- CA teachers with I.D.**
- Active or retired military with I.D.**
- Children 2 and under

Free hours for L.A. County residents
L.A. County residents receive free Museum Admission Monday – Friday from 3-5 pm. Bring a valid ID or utility bill the day of your visit.

We’re open 9:30 am to 5 pm every day of the year, with four exceptions. We are closed on:
- Independence Day (July 4)
- Thanksgiving Day (fourth Thursday of November)
- Christmas Day (December 25)
- New Year's Day (January 1)

The Museum's parking lot is located at the corner of Curson Ave. and 6th St., directly behind the museum. Enter from the western side of Curson Ave.
Important note about parking:
If you choose street parking, please read all parking signs carefully, as restrictions apply. Most importantly, DO NOT PARK ALONG WILSHIRE BOULEVARD between the hours of 7-9 am and 4-7 pm (Monday - Friday), or your car will be ticketed and towed. This applies even if you are parked at a meter.
Wheelchairs are available for rent on a first-come, first-served basis and can be checked out at the Main Entrance by depositing a driver's license or other form of valid identification. All exhibits and theaters within the Museum building are accessible for wheelchairs. Wheelchairs may enter through the Main Entrance, located on the South side of the building; follow the suggested route through the pedestrian gate adjacent to the handicapped spaces in the parking lot.
