Tour of La Brea Tar Pits and Museum and Cynthia Minet’s Jacked: Panthera Atrox.
La Brea Tar Pits in collaboration with Craft Contemporary will bring together art and science for a program highlighting Cynthia Minet, Los Angeles-based sculptor, and Dr. Emily Lindsey, Assistant Curator at La Brea Tar Pits. Together, artist and scientist will discuss the paleontological collections of La Brea that served as the inspiration for Minet’s sculpture, titled Jacked: Panthera Atrox, an animal-machine hybrid made of wood, metal, and post-consumer plastics. Dr. Lindsey will explain the importance of "tar" or asphalt for the preservation of fossils, while Minet will explain how her use of plastic directly references the geological history of La Brea Tar Pits. The tour will culminate at Craft Contemporary, with a viewing of the installation Cynthia Minet: Jacked.
Tour begins at Second Home Pavilion, Hancock Park. 5801 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90036
