Welcome Homeschoolers to La Brea Tar Pits for a day filled with activities, learning resources and special programs! During your visit, explore all things tar! Learn about how tar has been used throughout time and what new discoveries have recently been made. This event is free and exclusive to homeschoolers and their families, so you won't be sharing the museum with traditional school groups.
Free Entry is available during museum hours from 9:30 am to 5 pm.
Morning Programming will take place from 10 am to 12 pm and, after a lunch break, switch over to afternoon programming from 1 pm to 3 pm.

9:30am–5 pm | Museum Exploration with Free Entry
Explore the Museum's indoor and outdoor exhibits with a scavenger hunt. Bring back your completed sheet for a prize!
Self-guided | All ages | While supplies last
10 am–12 pm and 1 pm–3 pm | Craft Stations
Located near the Colombian Mammoth and Mastodon, mold your own Brea brown bone and craft a megafauna mask.
Drop-in | All ages | While supplies last
10 am–3 pm | Under the Microscope: Asphalt Flies
Meet with our Museum Educators to learn more about the tiny critters living in the tar!

10:30 am and 11:30 am | Ice Age Encounters
Reserve your seats at check-in to come face-to-face with Cali, our life-size adult saber-toothed cat puppet
Tickets Required | Recommended 2nd grade and up | 15 min
12 pm–3 pm | Titans of the Ice Age
Drop into the 2D Theater and get the inside scoop on what ongoing excavations tell us about LA's Ice Age past. Runs every ½ hour.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND TIPS
- While not required, participants are encouraged to reserve tickets prior to the event. Please ensure you are reserving for Friday, October 27.
- Paid parking is available in the Tar Pits Parking Lot (off Curson Ave.) for $18 per car. View parking map and directions here.
- Most programming on Homeschool Day is drop-in, so come and go as you please! Ticketed experiences will be indicated in the schedule above.
- On Homeschool Day, homeschool educators receive 10% off in the Museum Gift Shop with their Educator sticker!
