Visual Thinking Strategies, or VTS, is a method of facilitation based on extensive and ongoing research on how viewers process what they see in art. This method was developed as the result of more than 20 years of collaboration between cognitive psychologist Abigail Housen, veteran museum educator Phillip Yenawine, and their colleagues. Come to experience VTS in action with artworks at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA)! We will also discuss how we utilize this method at the Tar Pits to help our student visitors process what they see in science and you will learn how to implement these strategies in your classroom!
