School Visits

Explore La Brea Tar Pits from your very own school!

La Brea Tar Pits has begun its comprehensive transformation of its 13-acre campus. The museum is currently closed to the public until 2028. All field trips to La Brea Tar Pits are currently paused.

But have no fear! Our Educators are bringing the excavation site right to your classroom for free. Schools on the Ice Age migration map can book a special school visit in Fall 2026! Check this map to see if your school falls within our Ice Age migration zone.

Fall 2026 registrations are now open!

Submissions are due by October 5, 2026.  Please only submit one reservation form on behalf of your school. Learn more about the in-school programs below. For additional information, please contact us at 213.763.3271 or schoolprograms@tarpits.org.

Outside of our region? Bring your students on a field trip to the Natural History Museum, request a Mobile Museum Residency, or join us for a virtual Museum Careers webinar series in the spring.
