Please note: Sensory Friendly Field Trip Day will take place the first Monday of every month except for July–September

Book your field trip for one of our Sensory Friendly Field Trip Days, a lower capacity school visitor day on the first Monday of every month (October–June)!

On Sensory Friendly Field Trip Days*, school visitors can enjoy:

  • Lower overall capacity in the museum (limited to maximum 250 school visitors)
  • Adjusted interactives and sound in gallery spaces
    • Loud animatronics turned off
  • Access to a “Relaxation Zone” in the 2D Theater (no reservations required)
    • Self-regulated space to cool down with pillows & carpets
    • A coloring table and selection of books to read
  • Free disposable ear plugs
  • Limited number of free Student Sensory Kits available for 4-hour checkout specifically for school visitors (first come, first serve), which includes:

In order to ensure equity in access to our Sensory Kits, we cannot reserve kits for groups in advance. You can request a kit from staff at the Front Desk when checking in your group! To checkout a Sensory Kit, please bring a form of ID with you (driver's license, ID card, school ID, etc.).

Interested in building your own Sensory Kit to bring with you? Resources to build your own kit can be found here.

In addition to these day-of resources, educators can prepare their students for the field trip in advance using the following materials:

*While these days are intended to specifically support those with sensory sensitivities, the museum remains open to all school visitors, in addition to the general public. We cannot guarantee that every space in the museum will be sensory friendly, but hope the adjustments highlighted above can help create a more supportive environment for learning.
