Book your field trip for one of our Sensory Friendly Field Trip Days, a lower capacity school visitor day on the first Monday of every month (October–June)!
On Sensory Friendly Field Trip Days*, school visitors can enjoy:
- Lower overall capacity in the museum (limited to maximum 250 school visitors)
- Access to a “Relaxation Zone” in the 2D Theater
- Self-regulated space to cool down with bean bags & carpets (no reservations required)
- Lower lighting and generally less guests
- Limited number of free Student Sensory Kits available for 4-hour checkout specifically for school visitors (first come, first serve), which includes:
- Noise canceling headphones
- Stress ball
- Museum sensory map
- Mini pop-it fidget toy
- Sunglasses
- Free disposable ear plugs
In addition to these day-of resources, educators can prepare their students for the field trip in advance using the following materials:
*While these days are intended to specifically support those with sensory sensitivities, the museum remains open to all school visitors, in addition to the general public. We cannot guarantee that every space in the museum will be sensory friendly, but hope the adjustments highlighted above can help create a more supportive environment for learning.
In order to ensure equity in access to our Sensory Kits, we cannot reserve kits for groups in advance. You can request a kit from staff at the East Entrance when checking in your group!
